Emancipation of Minors in Pennsylvania NOTE: If a person who is at least 17 marries or joins the military with the permission of their parent(s) or legal guardian, he or she is considered emancipated. All other emancipation action has to be done with the assistance and approval of state social services and/or other state agencies and the court of venue. Emancipation is usually granted to obtain medical care or economic assistance for a minor child who does not have access to such, for whatever reason.
